A look into a few of my most used newborn props!

First off, I titled this post as "Part 1" because, let's be honest....there will always be new props being added to my collection. Some say prop buying is an addiction, I say hobby! :) But in all honesty, as a newborn photographer, you want to have a wide collection of props because you don't want every newborn photoshoot to look the same. Clients want their photo sessions to stand apart from all other sessions. And plus, as a baby photographer, you don't want to get bored yourself using the same props and setups during every single newborn session.

So, for this Part 1 series, here are three of my most used baby props....

Bamboo Basket

I love finding props that accommodate both newborns and older babies. {I mean, why wouldn't you want to get the most out of your money?} And this basket can be so versatile! Laying baby down, propping baby up, sitting older babies in it, sitting older babies on top....so many possibilities. I use this prop pretty much every single photoshoot I have. It has such so much texture with being handmade and gives a great rustic look. Plus, it's perfect to contain those older babies that want to crawl away quickly :)

Heart Basket

The heart basket is an absolute favorite of mine. It's also a favorite for clients, especially those with baby girls. I love to add little florals to the setup...or use a flokati underneath to add some more texture. I bought this prop SEVERAL years ago, used it maybe once or twice, and then I stopped. For some reason, I just couldn't get it to look right. A couple years ago, I dusted it off and tried again. I was finally able to figure out the right way to position baby and the correct angle to shoot it at. Now, I use it with pretty much every baby girl I photograph!

Bamboo Chair

Annnnnd here's another prop I use pretty much EVERY milestone photoshoot! But how could you not? When I first saw this chair become available, I knew I NEEDED it! It's just the perfect little chair for older babies to sit in. And another way to contain those babies on the move. When I ask my clients if they have any specific prop in mind for their sessions, this adorable little chair is always mentioned :)

When I first started as a baby photographer, I didn't have that many props. I think I had maybe a couple of old crates that I found laying around or an old stool that I'd bought at a garage sale. But over the years, my collection has definitely grown and I've been able to start adding the higher quality newborn props from photography vendors all over the world. And I honestly have all my clients to thank! So much of my income goes right back into investing into my business so that I can continue to offer only the best products for all my Kansas newborns!

Stay tuned for Baby Props {Part 2}!
